We spent a couple of hours in an adorable "tee haus," working on our blogs and discussing the American school system with a lady who works there! She has a 15 year old daughter who wants to do a semester abroad in America and had many questions about the "freedom" of American schools. She thought that it was interesting that Americans can choose public school, private school, or home school, and asked us many questions about whether certain schools were better than others. It is so interesting to hear others' perspectives and beliefs on American culture and education! This impromptu conversation was such a cool experience. While in downtown Hamburg, it has been relatively easily to communicate with people because most do know at least some English. On a side note, I made sense of two little tidbits of German conversation at breakfast, so that was a small accomplishment for me!
Matthew sent me "just because" flowers all the way to Germany! At least I think that's what they are, as he translated his note into German, and I had to ask my family to translate. I believe it says something along the lines of, "I hope that you had a good day, Ms. Moore." This made me so happy, and I am feeling beyond blessed to be surrounded by such great people in my life- both in America and here in Germany.
Time to get some sleep now, as I have an early morning of teaching tomorrow and a big weekend ahead. Tschüss! :)
