A random list about life lately:
- Because of the time difference, I am learning to subtract 6 well. I am also starting to think in 24 hour time without thinking about it.
- They sell alcohol at high school orchestra and choir concerts to raise money for prom. Literally, I drank a glass of champagne in a school at my host sister’s choir concert last week. A STUDENT poured the glass. What!?
- I am going to guzzle ALL the free water when I get back to the States.
- I have never appreciated the abundance of public bathrooms and trash cans in America so much. Y’all, public bathrooms are great.
- I don’t even really eat fast food when I am in America , but I would kill for some Chick-Fil-A.
- In general most German people talk very directly to one another instead of beating around the bush or insinuating what they are trying to say. It’s kind of nice. Update: According to Gabrielle's host father, this is a Northern Germany thing.
- I miss running, and I hope that this cough goes away soon because there are some really beautiful places that I need to run around here!
- I have successfully navigated public transportation on my own and am improving my map-reading skills (but there is a lot of room for improvement there). I LOVE public transportation!
- I understand some of the German that is spoken at the breakfast table!
- The refrigerators here are significantly smaller than those in America.
- Despite the amount of bread, pastries, cake, and ice cream that I have eaten, I have managed not to gain a thousand pounds. The European active lifestyle is real.
- I really think I have started to adjust to the routine of life in Germany. I am comfortable navigating public transportation and being part of the German family. I am immersed in the German culture, and I find myself loving my place there. I am really happy. :)
